IMPORTING CURRENCY
Foreigners may bring in HUF without limitation. Foreign currency may
be brought in, in unlimited amounts, but in order to avoid problems
when leaving, if you have an amount over the equivalent of 100,000.-
HUF ask for "Értékbehozatali tanúsítvány" ("Certification
of Valuables Entered").
GOODS ALLOWED IN CUSTOMS FREE
1. The goods/customs goods imported or exported through the forwarder
or post office or imported from abroad for personal, private or
family purposes ad hoc - at least once a day - are considered to
be non-commercial import or export in the following quantity:
alcoholic drinks:
1 litre of spirits or
1 litre of wine or
1 litre champagne or
1 litre of intermediate alcoholic product or
5 litres of beer
tobacco products:
200 cigarettes or
100 small cigarettes or
50 cigars or
250 g tobacco
vehicle:
1 piece/year per person
other goods/customs goods:
50 pieces up to the price of HUF 1000 per brand
20 pieces up to the price of HUF 5000 per brand
10 pieces up to the price of HUF 20,000 per brand
5 pieces up to the price of HUF 40,000 per brand
2 pieces up to the price of HUF 100,000 per brand
1 piece over the price of HUF 100,000 per brand
2. The quantity restrictions determined in the point 1. are valid
only for the export of
excise duty products and "the other goods/customs goods"
listed in the point 1, if:
- a regulation for quantity restriction is in force for the export
of these goods of commercial quantity or
- the law - on export and import of goods, services and that of
the substantive law as well as the permission of related activities
- contains regulations restricting the export or
- the export of these goods is subject to regulation.
Further condition related to the export of excise duty products
without quantity restriction is the verification of the fact that
duties have been already imposed on these goods or they are duty-free
products.
3. Rules of the non-commercial traffic are regulated by the Government
Decree for Implementation of the Customs Act.
Customs-fees are not to pay if the goods - brought in by passengers
- not exceed the 10 % of 1200 Euro (29,500 HUF) except if they are
- excise duty products, or
- the goods exceed the value of 29,500 HUF each.
Personal Belongings
In compliance with international regulations personal belongings
are goods, which essentially serve personal purposes, such as clothing,
which the traveller needs during his journey in abroad. According
to the Customs Code personal belongings are especially as follows:
- sanitary articles,
- personal jewellery,
- 1 portable television set,
- 1 portable video recorder,
- 1 portable projector, its parts and slots,
- 1 portable personal computer,
- 2 photographic cameras with 24 discs or 10 rolls of film per
camera,
- 1 narrow-gauge film camera,
- 1 video camera, 10 blank videotapes,
- 1 portable music box,
- portable music instruments,
- 1 portable phonograph with 10 records,
- 1 portable radio or radio-cassette tape player set,
- 1 portable facsimile machine,
- 1 portable typewriter,
- 1 baby carriage,
- 1 tent and other camping equipment and goods,
- 1 glass,
- sport equipment and accessories (i. e. tents and other camping
equipment, fishing gear, climbing gear, diving equipment, sport
weapons with bullets, 1 non-motorized bicycle, kayak or canoe less
than 5 1/2. meters in length, skies, tennis rackets, windsurf, surfboards,
golf equipment, wind glider, 1 hot air balloon, 1 parachute and
other similar articles,
- portable dialysis equipment and similar equipment and articles
for one use necessary for their use,
- other articles for unequivocal personal purposes.
Personal belonging carried, sent ahead, or sent afterwards by a
traveller with a permanent residence in abroad and intended for
personal or professional use during a journey shall be duty-free.
Items of use that have been taken and returned by natural persons
with a permanent residence in Hungary for personal or professional
use during journeys abroad
or items of use - with the exception of consumer durables - purchased
by such persons for such purposes during a foreign stay of more
than twenty-four hours shall be considered duty-free personal belonging.
Relief from duty granted for personal belonging can be used only
once a day.
Natural persons (travellers) may import duty free for personal use
furthermore:
a) 200 cigarillos or 50 cigars or 250 grams of cut tobacco,
or a combination of these products up to 250 grams, b) two litres of wine and one litre of distilled spirits, c) 1/4 litre of cologne and a small amount (100 ml) of perfume, d) in the case of persons with a residence abroad who participate
in hunting or sporting events, the amount of weapons and ammunition
for hunting and target shooting determined in a separate law, e) natural persons with a residence in Hungary - notwithstanding
the provisions of paragraph a) - may import 20 cigarillos (cigarettes)
of the tobacco products without a Hungarian tax seal. The quantity
of exported cigarillos with a Hungarian tax seal may be returned
without any limitation.
Tobacco products, alcoholic beverages and coffee shall not be imported
duty-free if carried by persons under the age of sixteen.
The customs goods defined in Paragraphs a)-c) and e) can be admitted
as duty-free only once in each calendar day, at the time of first
entry.
Personal belongings should be cleared upon request of foreign travellers
if intended to leave inland.
